Le format GIF (graphics interchange format) est un standard de compression d’image fixe, qui était sous licence Unisys jusqu’en juillet 2004 et sous licence IBM jusqu’en août 2006. Le format GIF (défini par l’extension de fichier ".gif") est l’un des formats d’image utilisés sur le web, l’autre étant le format JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group), développé par le groupe d’experts ayant donné son nom au format. Le format PNG (portable network graphics), librement utilisable sans licence, est issu du format GIF. -

Формат GIF — один из наиболее распространенных форматов графических файлов, используемых для веб-дизайна. Существует две версии данного формата: 87а и 89а. Версия 89а поддерживает анимацию, т. е. несколько последовательно сменяющихся изображений в одном GIF-файле. Формат GIF89a также можно определить как чередующееся представление изображений.
